Hamilton wanted Red Bull seat, rolled eyes at Mercedes option

It has been revealed that Lewis Hamilton requested Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone last year to try and secure a seat for him at Red Bull in 2013 and that the former world champion wasn’t particularly interested in joining Mercedes. Negotiations for the 28-year-old’s potential future gained traction at the British Grand Prix last year but Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz preferred to remain dedicated to Mark Webber, who extended his contract with the team for another season. 'Had Mark gone, Dietrich would have signed Lewis,' Ecclestone told the Daily Mail suggesting that Hamilton would have partnered Sebastian Vettel in 2013 if Webber would have left.
