Phuket forecast to be Thailand Grand Prix venue

Phuket is expected to host the Thailand Grand Prix when it debuts on the Formula 1 calendar in 2015, according to Tourism and Sports Minister Somsak Pureesrisak. Prior to last weekends Canadian Grand Prix it emerged that Thailand's previous venue, a street circuit around the historic district in Bangkok, had hit a stumbling block after officials banned motor racing in the city centre. Tourism and Sports Minister Somask Pureesriasak has been quoted by the Bangkok Post as saying: 'I can confirm that we cannot hold a Grand Prix on Ratchadamnoen Avenue, the law, which took effect last month, prohibits a car racing event in inner Bangkok.'
