Pirelli: 'Perez's puncture caused by debris'

Pirelli claim that Sergio Perez's puncture during final practice for the British Grand Prix was caused by debris, rather than a tyre failure. The Mexican driver brought out the red flags after reporting that his tyre had "exploded", littering the Copse corner with debris. Whilst 2013 has seen an unusual number of delaminations caused by discarded carbon fibre, the way in which Perez's tyre shredded itself seemed to suggest something else. However after analysis the Italian tyre supplier believes a piece of debris cut the side of the tyre, causing a rapid deflation and the events that followed. Pirelli's Paul Hembery insists it had nothing to do with the new bonding process...
