Alonso becomes highest points scorer

Fernando Alonso is now the highest points score in the history of Formula 1, having usurped Michael Schumacher with his fourth place finish at the Japanese Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver raised his overall total to 1571 points on Sunday, moving five clear of seven-time World Champion Schumacher who previously held the record on 1566. "I am very proud of having become the driver with the most points in the history of this sport, even if for a few years now, with the change to the points system, you get more," said Alonso, who has claimed 32 race victories and a further 62 podium finishes.
