McLaren's progress hampered by engine failure

Jenson Button and McLaren's final day testing the MP4-29 at the Bahrain International Circuit was hampered by an internal combustion engine failure. The high-mileage unit stopped working late in the morning and Button was forced to stop on the track, causing one of eight red flag periods over the course of the day. The team, unfortunately, had to change the engine and the mechanics spent most of the afternoon working to get the car back out. However, the team then discovered an as-yet undiagnosed control electronics issue. This meant the 2009 world champion was only able to add one lap to his tally by the end of the day.
