Alonso sets pace in first practice, troubles for Raikkonen

It was a contrasting opening practice session for Ferrari at the Chinese Grand Prix on Friday after Fernando Alonso emerged as the quickest driver while teammate Kimi Raikkonen could do no more than an installation lap. In tricky track conditions offering very little grip and dashed with a few spots of rain early in the session, Alonso set a time of 1 minute 39.783 seconds around the Shanghai circuit, nearly four-tenths quicker than Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg. Raikkonen, meanwhile, languished at the bottom of the charts having failed to set a time as the Finn was mostly confined in the garage during the session.
