Weather causes chaos as Rosberg’s late strike takes pole

In changeable conditions for today’s qualifying session for the British Grand Prix, drama saw some really big names eliminated early on, as Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg secured pole position for tomorrow’s race, ahead of Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and McLaren’s Jenson Button. The first 18-minute session saw the field tread carefully, opting to go on the intermediate tyres, with a dry line starting to emerge. The rain started its return after just five minutes, with some drivers such as Jules Bianchi, Max Chilton and Lewis Hamilton opting to go for slicks to keep them in the hunt for Q2.
