Rosberg rues ‘unnecessary' mistake as Hamilton stretches championship lead
+ Nico Rosberg was left rueing an ‘unnecessary’ mistake on the opening lap of the Russian Grand Prix that allowed his team-mate and title rival Lewis Hamilton to stretch his championship lead to 17 points.
Rosberg attacked Hamilton down the inside of Turn 2 on the opening lap os Sunday’s race but locked his tyres heavily, sliding wide but taking the lead.
The German quickly handed the position back to his team-mate and pitted at the end of the lap for fresh rubber due to vibrations from his badly flatspotted tyres, dropping to 20th.
