Perez hit with seven-place penalty for collision

Sergio Perez faces starting from the very back of the grid in Brazil next weekend after being handed a stiff penalty by the USGP stewards. The Mexican was involved in a first-lap collision that ended not only his own race but also that of Sauber rival Adrian Sutil, and reduced an already slimmed-down F1 field to just 16 cars. Grim-faced after a trip to the stewards, it quickly became apparent why Perez looked aggrieved, as the official FIA notice confirmed that his qualifying effort at Interlagos would be nullified by the addition of seven places by the time the race starts.
