F1: Vergne joins Ferrari
Toro Rosso reject Jean-Eric Vergne has been thrown an F1 lifeline by Ferrari, after the Scuderia confirmed he has been appointed as one of its test drivers. Vergne will work on car development in the simulator, the Maranello team added, while Pedro de la Rosa has been dropped. Vergne's appointment comes after Esteban Gutierrez was announced as the team's test and third driver earlier this week.
