Mercedes tickles Hamilton by eyeing Alonso

Mercedes has hinted that it may look at hiring Fernando Alonso as one of its drivers in 2016 should contract negotiations with reigning champion Lewis Hamilton collapse. Hamilton's current agreement with the German manufacturer expires at the end of the 2015 season with the two parties holding off any talks to extend the term during the last campaign. Alonso, meanwhile, has left Ferrari and rejoined McLaren - now powered by the returning Honda - on a multi-year deal but is understood to have clause related to performance that allows the Spaniard to leave should a vacancy arise at Mercedes.
