Alonso airlifted to hospital after testing crash

Fernando Alonso has been airlifted to hospital after crashing heavily during the final morning of pre-season testing at the Circuit de Catalunya. Just fifteen minutes before the end of the session, Alonso lost control of his McLaren-Honda MP4-30 on the exit of the fast turn three right-hander and is reported struck the wall in a sizeable shunt. Tended to by ambulance crews initially, Alonso was taken to the medical centre, where he was reported to be 'OK and conscious', but he is now being taken to hospital by helicopter for further checks.
