Pirelli ‘played their part' in Malaysian thriller

Pirelli's Paul Hembery was quietly proud after the Malaysian Grand Prix, saying that he believed the selected tyre compounds allowed a great strategic battle between Ferrari & Mercedes. Pirelli announced the usage of their two hardest tyre compounds for the Malaysian Grand Prix, the hard and the medium, due to the abrasive track surface and extreme temperatures at the Sepang Circuit. With a one second per lap difference expected between the tyre compounds, this allowed Ferrari to challenge the Mercedes drivers on pace, due to being able to extract more life out of the faster medium compound tyres.
