Visor tear-off to blame for Alonso's brake problems
McLaren has confirmed that a stray visor tear-off strip was to blame for Fernando Alonso's brake problem during the Spanish Grand Prix. The Spaniard lined up for the race in 13th place and ran as high as seventh through the pit stop phase, before going straight on at Turn 1 due to an issue with his brakes. Because of the problem, he overshot his pit box, and was forced to retire from his home race on the 21st lap. A McLaren spokesperson confirmed to Richland F1 the cause of the issue, saying: 'The brake problem that ended Fernando's race was caused by a stray visor tear-off strip that had become lodged in, and was thereby obstructing cooling air-flow through a rear brake duct.'
