Rosberg Top in Practice 1 as Vettel Stops on Track
Nico Rosberg finished the session fastest, 0.3 seconds ahead of team mate, Lewis Hamilton. Behind the two Mercedes drivers, Sebastian Vettel‘s car stopped having not completed a competitive lap time, he was restricted after a gearbox issue saw him pull off. The McLaren started out planning to take penalties throughout the weekend, however; Fernando Alonso‘s came into the pit lane after seven minutes of the session with problems for his fifth engine. The team insisted this was not terminal, which they proved by getting it running later, but the delay serious affected his running, only achieving seventeenth.
