Hamilton eases to pole position at Monza

Mercedes AMG Petronas Lewis Hamilton cruised to pole position for the Italian Grand Prix, his 11th of 2015, while Ferrari claimed second and third on the grid. Hamilton posted a 1:23.397 on his first lap in Q3 which was ultimately not beaten, as Kimi Räikkönen claimed a front-row start at the expense of team-mate Sebastian Vettel. Mercedes detected an undiagnosed problem on Nico Rosberg’s engine before qualifying and the squad was forced to revert back to an old unit. That left Rosberg at a disadvantage and he could manage only fourth, though was less than a tenth behind Räikkönen.
