Carlos Sainz goes fastest in soggy session – FP1 Report

Japanese Grand Prix – FP1 – Carlos Sainz has gone fastest for Toro Rosso at Suzuka. The Toro Rosso driver topped the timesheets ahead of Red Bull Racing's Daniil Kvyat & Mercedes AMG's Nico Rosberg. A slightly bizarre first practice session saw no one set a timed lap for the best part of the first hour. Rain struck the circuit overnight, and the conditions had not improved by the time FP1 rolled around. The fans watched and cheered, the drivers loitered around outside their garages, and the mechanics mechanic-ed as solitary installation laps were put in here and there by those brave enough to do so.
