Japan FP1: Sainz fastest in very wet conditions

Carlos Sainz was the surprise pace setter in his Toro Roosso during Friday morning as practice got under way for the Japanese Gran Prix in extremely wet conditions. With heavy rain falling throughout the session and puddles of standing water situated all around the track only 12 drivers chose to complete flying runs, with Red Bull's Daniil Kvyat ending up in second ahead of the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg, the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel and the other Silver Arrow of Lewis Hamilton.
