Ferrari veto led to FIA push for standard F1 engine

A decision by Ferrari to veto moves to introduce a cost cap on engines was the impetus for the FIA to push for a standard Formula 1 engine, the governing body has revealed. After Bernie Ecclestone said over the United States Grand Prix weekend that the FIA was planning to open up a tender for a cheap engine supply, the move was confirmed on Monday.
