'Button almost joined Williams for 2016'

According to reports in the UK media, McLaren's Jenson Button came close to signing with the Williams team for this season. Button, who made his debut with the Williams squad back in 2000, had a long wait during 2015 for the announcement that he was to be kept on as a McLaren driver. This was coupled with delays over the announcement of Valtteri Bottas, who was formally kept on shortly after Button's confirmation at McLaren. According to Sky Sports F1's David Croft, this was because Williams came close to signing their former driver up again: 'Jenson very nearly joined Williams at the back end of last year. You could speculate that that was the case, that Williams kept their options open...
