Raikkonen picks up five-place grid penalty for gearbox change
Kimi Raikkonen has been handed a five-place grid penalty for the 2016 Monaco Grand Prix after a gearbox change. Following third practice, Ferrari opted to replace Raikkonen’s gearbox for a new one before it had completed six consecutive events. This means Ferrari has breached Article 23.6a of the Formula 1 sporting regulations. The Finnish driver will fall five places from wherever he qualifies around the streets of Monte Carlo. Raikkonen was ninth fastest in third practice, while his team-mate Sebastian Vettel was quickest in the second Ferrari.
