Hamilton beats Rosberg to Canada pole

Mercedes AMG Petronas Lewis Hamilton secured pole position at the Canadian Grand Prix for the fifth time in his career as he topped qualifying at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Hamilton’s first Q3 run of 1:12.812 was sufficient for top spot as he edged out Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg by 0.062s. Hamilton was unable to improve on his second attempt but Rosberg squandered his effort into the first corner when he locked up and drifted wide. Sebastian Vettel hauled himself up the order with a late attempt to go third, the closest he and Ferrari has been across one lap in 2016.
