Mercedes to run 2014 car for Pirelli at Silverstone test

Mercedes are set to run a 2014-spec car at the forthcoming coming test at Silverstone in contribution to Pirelli's development of Formula 1 tyres for the 2017 season. Wider tyres are set to be introduced to F1 next year as part of a package of rules which will make the cars significantly faster – up to four or five seconds per lap – and apparently more exciting to watch. Pirelli has laid out an extensive testing programme ahead of the next season, including the use of 2013 and 2014 cars for this purpose. The tyres to be used during at the Silverstone test will be the same dimensions as the current ones used, thus the focus will be on the 2017-spec rubber compounds....
