Rosberg beats Hamilton to home pole

German Grand Prix – Nico Rosberg will start on pole for his home race after a close shootout between the two Silver Arrows. It was a quiet start to qualifying with only the two Manors heading on to the track in the opening five minutes of the session. But the cars quickly flurried on to the circuit, with Mercedes doing so on the soft tyre in a bid to save a set of the quickest compound. They still were faster than the rest of the field despite this. Manor were looking at a potential Q2 appearance as Pascal Wehrlein was running 13th at the end of the first run in qualifying.
