Mercedes insist pole was not easy to claim

Belgian Grand Prix – Mercedes claim that Nico Rosberg’s pole position was not easy to take. While at first it would seem that the Spa-Francorchamps circuit would be one that the Mercedes would dominate on, the unusually hot weather and Pirelli’s aggressive choice of tyre compounds have turned things on its head. Track temperatures reached an excess of 40°C which, combined with the high lateral loads from the high speed corners, meant the supersoft tyre struggled to complete more than two or three laps.
