Bite-size tech: McLaren MP4-31 rear end test solutions

McLaren is still eager to improve the MP4-31, with parts expected to filter through all the way to the last race. In Austin the team seems intent on studying the behaviour of the floor, diffuser and engine cover with numerous sensors placed around the rear of the car. The team appears to have mounted sensors on the upper surface of the diffuser to monitor deflection (see white inset) during Friday's free practice session, which has also led to the use of additional metal supports (arrowed).
