Stoffel Vandoorne's grid penalty climbs to 65-places with engine swap

Stoffel Vandoorne's grid penalty has climbed to a nominal 65-places after Honda opted to change his engine overnight. The McLaren driver had already been hit with a 35-place grid drop for his home race after upgrading to Honda's 'Spec 3.6' power unit, but the Japanese manufacturer spotted an issue after Friday practice and chose to replace it, downgrading him to 'Spec 3.5' – the same as team-mate Fernando Alonso. That incurred an additional 25-places, whilst a gearbox change adds an additonal five, taking his total to 65. Vandoorne is now on his sixth internal combustion engine (ICE), sixth MGU-K, ninth turbocharger (TC) and ninth 9th MGU-H.
