Bottas blitzes rivals as Mercedes dominates Spanish GP qualifying

Valtteri Bottas stormed to pole position for Formula 1’s Spanish Grand Prix, six-tenths of a second clear of team-mate Lewis Hamilton. It marked the seventh straight year in which a Mercedes driver has taken pole position at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Bottas blitzed his opponents at the start of Q3 with a new track record of 1:15.406, with Hamilton posting a time 0.634s after a ragged lap. Hamilton went wide through Turns 7 and 12 and had a wild approach to the chicane, but his effort was still good enough for second spot.
