Alonso fails to qualify for Indy 500

Fernando Alonso failed to qualify for next week's Indianapolis 500 after dropping into the shootout for the last row on the grid, which saw the Formula 1 star again struggle. Alonso has been making a high-profile chase of the 'Triple Crown', but must return to the Brickyard another year if he is to match Graham Hill's unique feat. The double world champion crashed on Wednesday, which ultimately wiped out a further day of on-track action as McLaren struggled to fix his car.
