Valtteri Bottas back to Spec 1 after Mercedes detects oil leak

Valtteri Bottas has reverted to Mercedes’ Spec 1 power unit for Friday practice at the Austrian Grand Prix, after a problem was uncovered on Spec 2. Mercedes introduced its Spec 2 power unit at the Canadian Grand Prix and encountered a few glitches with the upgrade. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff revealed after the French Grand Prix that Bottas had been managing a misfire through the closing laps of the race. On Friday morning at the Red Bull Ring Mercedes revealed that an oil leak had been detected on Bottas’ Spec 2 unit. Mercedes has re-installed Spec 1 into Bottas’ W10 for practice, and further assessments will be carried out on his Spec 2 unit.
