Ferrari confirm Sainz as Vettel's replacement

Ferrari has officially confirmed that McLaren driver Carlos Sainz will be joining the team to replace Sebastian Vettel from 2021. Vettel and Ferrari released a joint statement on Tuesday to confirm the overnight rumours that the two parties had failed to reach an agreement over a contract extension for the four-time World Champion. Later on the very same day, it emerged that Sainz was in the advanced stages of negotiations with Ferrari to replace Vettel and only the minor details needed to be resolved.
