Fernando Alonso hoping for ‘clean weekend’ in Barcelona

Fernando Alonso hopes that his home race in Spain can be the spring board for a string of good results as he aims to score points for the first time since Bahrain. The Spaniard ended the opening round of the season in ninth, and looked set to score again in Jeddah following an exhilarating battle with Alpine team-mate Esteban Ocon, but a reliability failure put him out of the running. His luck did not improve from there. An oil seal issue denied him pole in Melbourne after he went quicker than Charles Leclerc in each of the first two sectors, before an ill-timed Safety Car saw the 40-year-old finish outside the points.
