Pirelli: F1 tyre blankets ban means a completely new tyre
Formula 1 plans to ban the use electric tyre blankets in the 2024 season, and Pirelli head of Motorsport Director Mario Isola claims this means new tyres have to be designed. F1 uses electric tyre blankets to pre-heat the tyres before bolting them on the cars, but as the sport heads towards a more sustainable future, this practice should be banned in an aim to reduce energy consumption, as well as lowering the costs on the teams which will consequently let go of expensive equipment. The decision to ban the tyre blankets was applied at stages, as the regulations mandated a gradual reduction in the temperatures used until finally, the practice is ceased in 2024.
