Bahrain F1 test: Verstappen firmly in charge on first day

21/02/2024 at 16:1621/02/2024 at 16:20 Red Bull kicked off their 2024 campaign in ominously impressive form, with Max Verstappen topping the first of three days of pre-season testing at Bahrain with a best time of 1:31.344s after completing 141 laps. That was over a second clear of Lando Norris who was second fastest in the McLaren. Norris completed 71 laps in the afternoon after Oscar Piastri was in the cockpit before lunch, while Verstappen ran the whole day. Carlos Sainz, Daniel Ricciardo, Pierre Gasly and Lance Stroll filled out the rest of the top six in the warmer afternoon conditions, with Williams the only team to suffer significant technical gremlins.
