Marko smiles at ongoing McLaren driver equality

May 28 Dr Helmut Marko admits his ‘plan B' outcome for the Monaco GP came to pass, thanks to dithering over driver hierarchy at McLaren. The Red Bull advisor said before last weekend's race that if it again proved a mismatch for the car's characteristics, he at least hoped Lando Norris would return to form and beat McLaren teammate and championship leader Oscar Piastri. Indeed, Max Verstappen ultimately could manage no higher than P4 on the grid and at the chequered flag – even though his actual points deficit to the dominant McLarens was minimally affected.
