F1 strategy group meets as Renault requests homologation extension

The Formula One Strategy Group is set to meet for the final time today ahead of the new season and will consider a request from Renault to miss the deadline for engine homologation, reports suggest. According to the BBC and Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, the French engine supplier – which has encountered problem after problem during testing this year – has lodged a request with the FIA that it can miss today's deadline for engine homologation. This is where the specification for the coming season is pegged and engines can no longer be developed. Having been the driving force behind the downsize from V8 engines to turbocharged V6s, there is some irony in Renault's request....
