Vettel made the call to keep Raikkonen at Ferrari
A British newspaper report claims that Sebastian Vettel insisted that Ferrari keep Kimi Raikkonen in the team for 2017. The Italian team had openly contemplated replacing the ageing Finn, with the impressive Force India driver Sergio Perez apparently at the top of the list. But when asked if he was surprised when Ferrari re-signed Raikkonen, Perez answered: 'Actually no. I expected they would keep him. 'Life goes on,' the Mexican told Auto Motor und Sport. 'I will continue to prove that I'm ready for a top team.' Told that Ferrari appears to have gone for the ‘safe' option with the 2007 world champion, Perez did not disagree.
