Mercedes optimistic Rosberg will escape gearbox penalty

Mercedes is hopeful that Nico Rosberg will escape a gearbox penalty at the Hungarian Grand Prix, despite the problems he suffered at Silverstone. The German risked retiring from the British GP a fortnight ago when his car briefly got stuck in seventh gear towards the end of the race. After being given radio messages to help him cure the issue – and advice from the outfit about avoiding the troubled gear afterwards – Rosberg made it to the finish line but received a post-race penalty for the assistance he got. Mercedes had to wait until it arrived at the Hungaroring to be able to inspect the gearbox under FIA supervision, and its initial diagnosis is that it is not damaged. A decision...
