Three teams to take part in 2019 18-inch tyre testing

Pirelli has confirmed that three teams will assist with its initial preparations for Formula 1’s switch to 18-inch wheel rims for 2021. Formula 1 will move from the current 13-inch specifications to 18-inch rubber as part of the raft of sporting and technical regulation changes planned for 2021. It was confirmed on Thursday that Formula 2 will use the 18-inch rubber in 2020, with the series being regarded as an ideal test bed for Formula 1 ahead of 2021. During the FIA press conference on Friday Pirelli chief Mario Isola revealed that Mercedes, McLaren and Renault will supply modified 2018 cars for three separate test sessions.
